About the Monterey Jazz Festival
The country's oldest jazz festival features the sounds of some of the world's finest jazz musicians. This year features the 75th birthday celebration of Miles Davis and John Coltrane with performances by Herbie Hancock, Michael Brecker and Roy Hargrove! 1950s radio personality Jimmy Lyons once dreamed of "a sylvan setting with the best jazz people in the world playing on the same stage, having a whole weekend of jazz." That dream became a reality in Monterey, in 1958, with a single stage that hosted Dizzy Gillespie, Louis Armstrong, Art Farmer and Billie Holiday, just to name a few.
